Debate ensued online on Monday after Safaricom sent messages to some of its users from 44444.

Some of the subscribers alleged that they were already voting for the Constitutional amendment bill 2020 (BBI) which will be subjected to a referendum later after being passed at the assemblies.

Later, on Monday evening, Safaricom apologised to customers who received a mass blast message reading only “Test!”.

Numerous subscribers had noted the odd message delivered by the number 44444.

In reaction to online and mobile users, Safaricom said the SMS came as a result of a system issue and it had no connection with the ongoing bill.
