ODM leader Raila Odinga says the Coastal party will bring more harm than good. Raila says ODM has been taking care and will continue taking care of the coast region interests.
Addressing people in Voi, Taita Taveta county, the former Prime Minister said Coastal based party will be setting an example of having tribal cocoons in every region.
Raila said the idea of regional parties has outlasted its usefulness and advised those exciting for it to join other larger parties with a national outlook.
He said regional parties will divide the country into tribal cocoons instead of the national unity supported in the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill 2020.
“There is no need to form tribal regional parties. There were parties or associations like the Kikuyu Central Association, others belonging to the Luo, the Luhya, among other communities, formed before but they all died," he said.
However, Governor Kingi close ally and Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire said MPs from Kilifi met at Kingi's residence and proposed to follow Raila in all his rallies in the county to popularise the BBI Bill but not 2022 politics.
“He will come to popularise BBI and not to discuss party matters. We shall welcome him, all of us from various parties,” said Ganze MP Mwambire.
However, before addressing the Taita Taveta resident, Raila Odinga met a former ally when he was imprisoned at Manyani.
" I had the great fortune of meeting Mzee John Mwavuda, my prison guard, during my detention period in Manyani maximum prison. John was a special man, kind enough to smuggle in pieces of toilet and scrap paper that I would then write letters to my loved ones on, " he said.
"John also doubled as the official courier for the prison and I would deliberately write official letters which would trigger him to be sent to Nairobi. He risked his life selflessly by delivering messages that kept me going during those dark days, " he added.
