Kennedy Maero, 30, from Emuhuni Village in Navakholo Constituency, Kakamega County commit suicide on Monday, March 22 after dumped by his wife two weeks ago.

Kennedy Maero’s body was found hanging from a string tied to the roof of his house on the wee hours of Tuesday.

Maero’s mother, Linet Maero, had urged the late’s brother to go check on him in his house after it took long for Maero to wake up.

“It was unlike him to wake up late,” said the late’s father, Wilfred Maero.

“My son and his wife, 27, had parted two weeks ago following an unending marital conflict. Since then, he suffered depression,” said Wilfred.

The deceased’s mother, Linet, narrated her son’s last minutes.

“On Monday night (March 22), he took dinner with us. He, consequently, left for his house to sleep. But before he could get into his house, he got a phone call. That was the last time I saw him alive,” said Linet.

Buchangu Sub-Location Assistant Chief, Charles Otwisa confirmed the incident.

“I am asking young people to embrace counselling when faced with marital problems,” said Otwisa.

“Choosing suicide is not a solution, as it neglects the deceased’s family in long-term anxiety.”
