Interior CS Fred Matiang'i says the government is creating severe rules to control cases of emotional and love harassment together with relationship assaults and domestic violence in the police service.

The Cabinet secretary on Friday said a task force has been created to come up with regulations and laws that will guide relationships in the National Police Service like in Kenya Defense Forces.

He said among others, the move is focused on addressing rising cases of domestic violence and killings in the service.

However, Kenyans on social media criticised the move saying the rules cannot prevent two adults from falling in love.

Matiang'i had said, “We will adopt a system similar to that of the Kenya Defence Forces which bars the soldiers from getting into intimate relationships with their colleagues."

"Moving forward, it will be illegal for a police officer to date or get married to a fellow law enforcement officer. If two police officers fall in love, then one has to leave the Service."

Kenyans are doubting how compelling the 'love ban' would be conducted due to the nature of Police officers' job.
