Liverpool signs centre-back Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig after agreeing to pay his £36m release clause.


Konate, 22, made 21 appearances for Leipzig in the 2020/2021 season including 8 Bundesliga commences as the club concluded the season at the second position, just 13 points behind champions Bayern Munich.


Konate will begin a long-term contract from July 1, subject to international clearance and a successful work permit application process.

Konate will join another teenager Minamino who went to Southampton on loan.

"I'm pleased to be joining such an extensive club like Liverpool," Konate said.

"It's a really exciting moment for me and my family and I am looking forward to meeting my new teammates, the staff and getting started on this new chapter," he added.


The France U21 international's appearance at Anfield intensifies Jurgen Klopp's defensive options, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all expecting to be back for the start of next season after missing the majority of the 2020-21 battle through injury.
