Kapenguria Police officers, West Pokot compelled to meddle and salvage a lady identified as Elizabeth Nalem after residents were baying for his blood after coming from her honeymoon.

Elizabeth left her matrimonial home and ‘wedded the holy spirit in a bizarre ceremony.

The husband Joshua Nalem said Elizabeth left their home to their local shopping centre only to be notified by locals that the woman was ‘wedding the holy spirit’.

“One of our neighbours called me saying that she had seen my wife in a wedding gown and on my arrival, I found her exchanging vows with an invisible groom,” Joshua said.

After the controversial rite, Elizabeth travelled to Amudat in Uganda for her honeymoon thereby abandoning her marital home. Her earthly husband was annoyed.

“Since she left, I’ve been taking care of house chores, and this is against our tradition,” Joshua said.

The mother of three is said to have returned to Makutano on Monday and was fooled to visit her home where she met an angry crowd waiting to punish her for vacating her husband.

Police were alerted and came immediately to save her life.

“I returned yesterday after my honeymoon with my beloved husband the holy spirit and my friends requested me to visit my home where I almost lost my life to angry neighbours,” Elizabeth said.

It took the police officer over six hours to persuade her to go back to her husband's home.

However, the husband has been criticizing her for denying his conjugal rights in the name of marriage to the holy spirit.
