Denmark Euro 2020 opening match against Finland in Copenhagen had to be suspended after Danish player Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field of play just minutes to half-time.

The medical staff instantly attended him while his teammates, opposition and coaching staff were visibly shaken by the scenes uncovering at the Parken Stadium.

Teammates created a shield around the former Tottenham man, while fans inside the stadium were surprised by the event, with some filmed in tears.

Players from teams went down in tears from the unfortunate incident.

Referee Anthony Taylor stopped the match shortly before half-time with Finnish players retiring to the dressing room. Danish players continued to be on the field as doctors attended to Eriksen.

UEFA later authenticated that the match had been suspended officially due to “a medical emergency”.

However, they later confirmed that Eriksen had been transferred to hospital and had been “stabilised.”

Further,  the Danish FA announced that Eriksen was awake when he left the stadium.

The match was later restarted and Denmark lost to Finland by one goal.

On the other hand, it was the perfect start for Belgium, who were in second gear throughout yet still hammered Russia.

The ravening Romelu Lukaku scored twice, with the substitute Thomas Meunier also on the scoresheet.

Meunier’s entanglement was the only real downside for Belgium,  he came on in the first half after a dangerous eye injury to Timothy Castagne.
