Pope Francis meets Spiderman at Vatican

Pope Francis at the Vatican meets a guy who is a hero to children everywhere -- including kids in hospitals he visits to cheer them up.

The Pope met a young man costumed in a full Spider-Man suit Wednesday in Vatican City.

The costumed personality was seated in the VIP section of the audience in the Vatican's San Damaso Courtyard.

That was Spidey, a 27-year-old Mattia Villardita from northern Italy was being sanctified for the work he does dressing up as superheroes and visiting sick children at hospitals to raise their spirits.

Villardita did his best to mix in while sitting in the crowd but that makes the front page of the Daily Bugle.

After His Holiness concluded with the general conversation in the event, Spider-Man got an audience with him -- they shook hands, and Spiderman handed the Pontiff a mask of his own.

Villardita was also acknowledged last year by Italian President Sergio Mattarella. Spidey's got friends in high places.
