The only KANU governor in Kenya, West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo finally confirms that he will not defend his seat on the party’s ticket but on a new political outfit.

The withdrawal of the key KANU official deals a big blow to Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

The county has 14 of the 33 members of the county assembly from KANU.

The news of the planned formation of another party also hampers the battle for what can be claimed to be KANU last edge after losing control of other key counties with Deputy President William Ruto in Rift Valley.

Addressing residents in Makutano, Governor Lonyangapuo, who has been a fearful force and strong loyal member of the independence party, challenged the top KANU administration of a plot to thwart and sabotage his performance through the county assembly.

The move makes Gideon Moi an orphaned leader with no KANU support in the Council of Governors while losing grip at the Rift Valley.
