UDA and DP William Ruto settle on a running mate from Central Kenya

DP William Ruto hints at picking running from Mt Kenya and is likely to choose Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua.

DP William Ruto hinted at introducing Gachagua to national politics. He shared that Nyeri deserved a second chance in national politics.

“I want to ask you for one favour, allow Gachagua to accompany me to other parts of the country so that we can be able to win this seat. Free him so that he can engage in national politics,” Ruto told Nyeri residents Saturday.

Ruto added that Gachagua is one of his trusted friends, and he would want him in his national campaign to promote his possibilities of becoming president next year.

Gachagua is seen as a powerful force in Central Kenya politics due to his strong mobilisation skills and deep pockets.  

Though he battles many cases, the former District Commissioner is very conversant with national politics.

DP Ruto asked the residents to allow the MP to play national politics and forgo any elective seat in the county or constituency.

Political analysts have foretold that DP Ruto is likely to pick his running mate from the vote-rich Mt Kenya to maximise his potential of winning the presidency in August when incumbent president Uhuru Kenyatta will be leaving office.
