As politics continue to take shape in Kilifi county, the gubernatorial race heats up.
Kilifi county ODM leader and Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire explains that the party has already candidates who are fronting for the seat.
UDA has Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa while PAA is confronting Senatorial candidate George Kithi for gubernatorial seat.
According to Jubilee Party Chairman Nelson Dzuya, the only leader from the coast who ditched the party officially to join ODM is Suleiman Shahbal. CAS Gideon Mung'aro is still a member of Jubilee.
The Jubilee party Chairman said Jubilee party point-man is CAS Gideon Mung'aro in Kilifi and have already prepared to handover the Jubilee nomination certificate.
" The party is prepared to give the certificate to the CAS. There are no other participants for the gubernatorial seat from Jubilee party," Dzuya said.
His statement was seconded by Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire. The ODM Vanguard said the CAS has not officially tendered his membership registration with ODM party as well.
" ODM has not received membership registration from the CAS. He is our brother but due process must be followed," Mwambire said.
However, analysts fear that the ODM might lose ground in the region in favour of the Pamoja African Alliance Party associated with Governor Amason Kingi if it mishandles its nominations.
From the Jubilee official statement, now ODM has remained with three candidates who are battling for the nomination certificate. These include; Speaker Jimmy Kahindi, Kenyan High Commissioner to Tanzania Dan Kazungu, and Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi.
Speaker Jimmy Kahindi says he has never been in PAA and now it's just warming up. He was referring to statements that were made by CAS Gideon Mung'aro allies.
" We have not started the campaign. We are still arranging ourselves. The campaign match has not kicked off. This time around things will be different, " the Speaker said.
" Others have been campaigning since 2019. But now they are feeling the heat. Kilifi needs better leadership," he added.
