Kenya tops among the unhappiest countries in the world -UN World Happiness Report

 

Kenya becomes the world's 27th unhappiest country. In African countries, it is among the top unhappiest nations according to a new worldwide assessment.

Kenya is ranked 119th out of 146 nations in the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network's 2022 World Happiness Report. 

Kenya improved three places from last year's ranking of 121st out of 149 nations in the happiness index.

According to this year's happiness survey, Kenyans' biggest source of unhappiness is perceived government crime.

Mauritius is the happiest country in Africa, ranking 52nd in the world, followed by Libya, Ivory Coast, South Africa, and the Gambia. Kenya was recognized as the continent's 23rd happiest country.

Uganda, the happiest member of the East African Community (EAC), was ranked 117th in the world, while Ethiopia and Tanzania were placed 131st and 139th, respectively. 

Rwanda is the least happy country in the EAC, ranking fourth in the world happiness index, ahead of Zimbabwe, Lebanon, and Afghanistan.

 

Finland was declared the happiest country in the world for the fifth year in a row, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

The World Happiness Report, which began in 2012, is based on people's self-reported joy and economic and social statistics. It calculates a happiness score on a scale of 0 to 10 based on a three-year average of data.

Data from social media was used in this year's study to examine people's sentiments before and after the Covid-19 epidemic.
