Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka disclosed on Monday that the iconic 'watermelon' nickname was given to him by Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Musyoka, speaking during an interview at his Tseikuru house on Monday, said he didn't mind the title because watermelon is a healthy fruit.

"The watermelon tag was given to me by Raila, but it's not an issue. He's my brother, and by the way, it's a lovely fruit," Kalonzo stated in an interview with KTN News.

The phrase "watermelon" has been used to describe the Wiper leader's "indecisiveness," and he has also been accused of suddenly altering his political opinions.

Musyoka claims that being labelled as indecisive is unjust and that it is his democratic right to make his own decisions.

"When they don't like it, I turn into a watermelon. This country was not built to serve the desires of a select few; we are all Kenyans," he remarked.

Kalonzo also stated that if unity in the country was the price, he would back Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

He added that his decision to endorse Odinga for the third time was not a negotiating chip, but rather a noble act.

"I replied for the third time, if people asked me whether I would back Raila Odinga 20 times, I would, if it meant keeping this country together," he remarked.

He justified his decision to back Odinga for president for the third time, after earlier angrily denying it and declaring that he would be a fool to do so.

The Wiper leader declared that he will go around the nation to guarantee that Odinga is elected to the country's highest office.

"I hope he becomes the next president, and I want to go around the nation to advocate for him," Musyoka said.
