Dear Customer, urgently visit a Safaricom Shop, Dealer or Agent with original ID to update your SIM registration. Dial *106# messages photo

This is the message that every Safaricom customer and Airtel user has gotten from Telcos. However, many users are receiving an unusual notification, which has led to speculation about its function.

All cell providers are checking to see if all of their clients have the necessary registration documents attached to all of their lines.

Some customers will be contacted as part of the process and asked to attend any of the Safaricom registration stations or Airtel centres listed with their ID to confirm their registered lines.

" Dear Customer, urgently visit a Safaricom Shop, Dealer or Agent with original ID to update your SIM registration. Dial *106# for lines registered to your ID," reads the message.

Why is Safaricom still requesting that you update your SIM registration information?

Updating your SIM card information with Safaricom complies with the Communications Authority of Kenya's (CA) regulation, which requires that all client mobile numbers be properly registered against the right identification credentials provided by SIM card owners.

According to the CA, having a SIM card registered with wrong information is unlawful, which is why you've probably been getting push notifications from Safaricom telling you to go to and amend your SIM card information.

Mobile phone users who have registered their SIM cards without giving photo IDs will be disconnected by April 15, according to the Communications Authority (CA).
