Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, a Mvita Member of Parliament and Suleiman Shahbal photo over ODM ticket

Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, a Mvita Member of Parliament, is currently the indisputable Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) gubernatorial candidate in the August elections in Mombasa.

Suleiman Shahbal, a political adversary and businessman, dropped his bid to endorse Abdulswamad after discussions.

After the party leadership, led by Raila Odinga, called for consensus-building in order to ensure ODM keeps the ticket, Shahbal said he decided to support the legislator.

"For the past ten years, I've wanted to be the governor of Mombasa." "However, the goal of becoming governor was not for Suleiman Shahbal, but for the people of Mombasa to see progress and growth," he remarked during a press conference on Friday evening.

"It doesn't matter if I lead those changes; what matters is that they happen, and now we've agreed to collaborate with Abdulswamad to ensure that they do."

On his part, the legislator praised Shahbal's decision to support his candidacy, adding the two will work together to secure the development of the Coastal county.

"I'd want to express my gratitude to my ODM party leaders and my brother Suleiman for agreeing to collaborate." "He's been a worthy rival, and we've agreed to collaborate so that we can achieve our goals," Abdulswamad added.
