Master Wellington Otieno, a Form Three boy at Masikonde Day Secondary School gifted Raila Statehouse model returned

Master Wellington Otieno, a Form Three boy at Masikonde Day Secondary School in Narok town, is the brains behind the State House model that was given to Raila Odinga, the candidate for the presidency of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party.

On Monday, May 23, Otieno disclosed how he pitched the idea of designing the State House for his favoured political contender in an exclusive interview with The Nation.

"I've done various artworks, such as buses, and even a model of my dream house," Otieno told The Daily Nation, "but the 'State House' was my largest endeavour."

"When I informed my mother about my plan to build the 'State House,' she was impressed," Otieno said, "but she told me it wouldn't be possible since she didn't have the money for the supplies."

The youngster said that the 'State House budget for the project was about Ksh 6, 000, all coming from a church pastor's contribution.

When Otieno and his mother Jael Achieng learned that the ODM presidential front-runner would be in Narok County, they hired a tuk-tuk for Sh400 and drove to William ole Ntimama Stadium to offer the presents to the ODM statesman.

However, they were unable to offer it on their own because members of the audience grabbed it and carried it to the dias.

Otieno was overjoyed when the gift was brought to Raila, but he was upset when it was returned to him.

“Hawa vijana leo wamenipatia statehouse, wameamua kuniingiza leo hii. Wamesema Leo hii kwamba hii itakuwa maskani yangu na Martha atakuwa na ofisi kule ndani,(These youths have given the State House Kenya portrait, they have said they want by residence to be in state house)” Raila said without realizing it was the struggle of the 17-year-old youngster.

“I still want to present this gift to him in person so that he keeps it until he ascends to the real State House. I would also love to visit the real State House and even meet the current occupant, President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Otieno narrated.
