Chelsea new owner wants Romelu Lukaku be replaced by Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.

According to ESPN, Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel wants to replace Romelu Lukaku with Robert Lewandowski, although both moves face substantial barriers.

Lukaku is eager to return to Inter Milan after a disheartening first season back at Stamford Bridge after departing the Serie A club for €115 million last summer. He scored eight goals in 26 Premier League matches.

Lukaku and Chelsea have been in negotiations in recent times, with the club indicating that they are willing to let the Belgian striker depart.

The Blues, on the other hand, want to reclaim the majority of the club-record amount they paid a year ago, but Inter are cash-strapped and would accept a loan agreement.

Chelsea had requested about €20m-€25m to loan Lukaku for just one season in order to counteract any deterioration in his transfer worth as he approaches his 30th birthday next year. They, on the other hand, refused to accept.

Chelsea are looking for their own striker to help revamp their offensive. Chelsea were interested in signing Erling Haaland, but were unable to contend with Manchester City due to U.K. government sanctions prohibiting transfers related to former owner Roman Abramovich's alleged ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Tuchel has long admired Lewandowski, who has stated his desire to leave Bayern Munich, and feels that having turned 34 in August, he would thrive in the Premier League.

The Poland international has been extensively connected with a €40 million move to Barcelona, with sources in Spain this week claiming he has informally struck a deal, but a lack of cash is putting the accord on hold.
