Campaigning in Nairobi is set to pick up over the next couple of days as the two major political parties ramp up their efforts before the election.

After being given the responsibility by presidential challenger Raila Odinga, Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu will spearhead the appeal drive for the Azimio la Umoja campaign.

Since then, the governor has announced that she will schedule a meeting of all Azimio contenders before launching a series of uninterrupted events.

"It is now time to hit the ground properly and knock on each door in all our wards because Baba has to win and we have no room for excuses," Kananu said.

Richard Ngatia, the President of Kenya Chambers of Commerce and Industry, would assist her in spearheading efforts aimed at traders and businesspeople.

The pair has been tasked with ensuring that gubernatorial candidate Polycarp Igathe and his running mate Philip Kaloki defeat his Kenya Kwanza rivals in the election.

UDA's Johnson Sakaja, the outgoing Nairobi senator, and his running mate George Muchiri are up against the Azimio team.

The battle between the two groups is anticipated to be long and arduous, as Nairobi, the country's power centre, is a critical county that presidential hopefuls want to win.

Nairobi is home to all of Africa's ministries and diplomatic posts, as well as the majority of airlines operating in and out of the continent.

The county is cosmopolitan.
