Pep Guardiola has been ordered to stop whining about the overcrowding of fixtures by UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin.
Largely as a result of playing in four leagues each season and the five international breaks with two or three fixtures each, Guardiola frequently criticises the amount of work his Manchester City players must do.
Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, is another coach who frequently laments the number of games his team must play as well as other problems like the scheduling of games for television purposes. In response, UEFA president Ceferin said the two had no right to complain.
Ceferin told Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by the Mirror: "It's simple, yet it's easy to criticise UEFA and FIFA all the time. You earn less money if you play less.
"The industrial workers who receive €1,000 a month are the ones who should be complaining. No one gives up on anything, and everyone wants more championship games. In the Champions League group stage, clubs desired 10 games. Eight will be there; it's the ideal number.
"The presidents disagree that domestic leagues should have 18 clubs. They ought to know that two household glasses are excessive.
If they win every competition and then help their nation get to the World Cup semifinals in December, certain City players might play more than 100 games in the upcoming season.
The Champions League will be redesigned in 2024 with a new group stage and more matches than the present schedule of six games.
Ceferin, though, defended UEFA's choice to upend the status quo, asserting that "Today, you can already predict who will play in the Round of 16 after the draw. Big clubs will meet more regularly in the future, lesser clubs will have more opportunities to qualify, and the competition will be fierce. It will be amazing."
