The University of Nairobi has issued a statement denying the authenticity of a viral degree certificate purporting to be that of Deputy President William Ruto.
The degree, which featured Ruto's name and his true subject of study, was deemed a forgery by the university. The certificate's origin has yet to be determined.
The presidential candidate possesses a BSc in Botany and Zoology from the University of Nairobi, and his academic credentials have been cleared by the IEBC. In 1990, he earned a bachelor's degree.
Ruto went on to get an MSc in Plant Ecology and graduated in 2011. He applied for a Ph.D. the following year, and despite multiple setbacks, he finished and was given a Ph.D. from the University of Nairobi on December 21, 2018.
