After the Supreme Court ruled that the 2017 presidential election was not valid, Deputy President William Ruto said he almost hit President Uhuru Kenyatta hard.

According to Ruto, Uhuru was so furious over the choice that he almost chose to give up and drop out of the contest in favour of going back to his home in Ichaweri.

This is according to an audio file that The Nation received from a gathering of Kikuyu elders and Ruto that took place on Friday, July 1, in his Karen home.

During his speech to the elders, his boss hinted that he wouldn't run in the 2017 rerun elections. Ruto said that he almost hit his boss when he heard that.

The President continues, "We should give up on this," adding that he prefers to visit his hometown of Ichaweri in Kiambu County rather than take part in the repeat polls.

"You! I yelled at him when I saw him. If I hadn't been being kind, I would have smacked him hard. How could we just quit? " Ruto announced.

Ruto also said that since the Jubilee party could not have lost, he was the one who kept begging Uhuru to participate in the rerun.

"I reassured him that after winning the election, we couldn't just give up. Senators, governors, and MPs all increased their numbers. He said that we had worked really hard. Standing by Ruto's side were Kung'u Muigai of Kiama Ka Ma, Rigathi Gachagua, Justin Muturi, Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Kuria of Gatundu South, and Kimani Ichung'wa of the Kikuyu tribe.
