Raila Odinga and Martha Karua applauded the court verdict compelling Kenya Kwanza Alliance Deputy Presidential candidate Rigathi Gachagua to forfeit Sh202 million to the government.
The pair, who visited Nakuru County on Thursday, said the verdict was appropriate and confirmed their argument that Kenya Kwanza Alliance cannot be entrusted to tackle corruption.
Doing a said,"The court decided that the proceeds were fraudulently received."
The former prime minister advised Kenyans not to be duped into believing that the fight against corruption was being used to smear their competition.
"Don't tell us the government is persecuting them because of William Ruto. Odinga said the court proved them erroneous," Gachagua added.
Odinga's campaign focuses on fighting corruption, while Ruto has been implicated in it since last year.
"I want youth to be brave and protect our country. Vote for leaders who would fight the vice, " Odinga said.
Karua said Gachagua didn't clarify the genesis of the cash, indicating they were corruptly acquired.
“As a voter, you weigh all the teams and choose one. Our team has revolutionaries ready to protect your concerns. "The other side is looters who want to make millions of Kenyans suffer," she continued.
She urged Kenyans to elect her and Raila because they'll defend public resources and lead progress.
"Vote for leaders who will defend your interests and make Kenya develop." If you vote for a corrupt leader, you'll suffer for five years,” she warned.
Gachagua vows to overturn the decision, calling it misguided two weeks before the election.
“The judge denied our lawyers' request to cross-examine the Investigators to verify his claims. She required documents and disregarded oral evidence, " he said.
Anti-Corruption Court judge Esther Maina decided that Gachagua confessed to receiving government funds but there was no proof he provided services or goods.
Justice Maina ordered him to turn over Sh202 million after he couldn't explain its source.
