In court for stealing a goose

After admitting to snatching a goose, a 52-year-old man was given a sentence of one year in jail or Ksh30,000 in fines.

On July 24, 2022, in Majengo Estate in Narok Town, Peter Kinyanjui stole a goose valued at Ksh5,000 before killing it inside his home.

Rhodah Njeri, the goose's owner, said in court that she was made aware of the incident by her neighbors when they saw the offender carrying one of her geese as they were eating outside her home.

Following him, they discovered him in his home, killing a goose. The crowd then took him into custody and brought him to the Narok Police Station.

As an atonement, Kinyanjui begged the court to pardon him, claiming that he had gone days without food and had turned to stealing rather than starving to death.

As she gave him his sentence, Narok Senior Resident Magistrate Adelaide Sisenda reminded him that it was against the law to take someone else's property without their permission.

The judge also told him that he had 14 days from the date of the verdict to file an appeal if he didn't agree with it.
