Government asks Raila Odinga to collect his billions lying idle

Raila Odinga, the head of the Azimio La Umoja party, has been requested by the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA) to recover millions that were left over by his son, Fidel Odinga, who passed away.

Fidel listed his own father as his next of kin on the property documents. Raila has yet to file a formal claim for the funds.

UFAA, on the other hand, did not provide any details on the businesses that gave up the multi-million dollar windfall.

It sent a petition to the family asking them to collect the dues, pointing out that the authority was already too busy with the billions of dollars worth of unused assets.

A source says that Fidel's wealth consisted of cash in eight different bank accounts and two other types of investments.

According to what Muya said to the Standard, the majority of the unclaimed assets belonged to members of notable families, such as the family of Njenga Karume, who was a Cabinet Minister in the past.

Others who were named there include the well-known politician John Harun Mwau, as well as the late prominent American author and academic Ali Mazrui, who was born in Kenya.

On March 28, John Mwangi, the chief executive officer of the authority, said that the state was in possession of riches amounting to Ksh54.9 billion.

Unpaid insurance policies, mobile money in wallet accounts, unpaid pension payments, money in bank accounts, Saccos, and legal remedies were the forms that the property took.

Because of this, the government agency decided to start a project that would give Kenyans access to information about their assets through Huduma centres that are spread all over the country.

By calling the USSD number *361# on their mobile phones, Kenyans also have access to another method for checking their status.
