How to register SIM Card in Kenya today

On Saturday, October 15, 2022, unregistered sim cards will be offline. Kenyans have less than one day to register their SIM cards before the deadline expires.

The registration procedure is scheduled to end on October 15, 2022, at which point the Communications Authority of Kenya cautioned of strict regulations, including a shutdown for unregistered subscribers. The instruction was issued on April 14 of this year.

Before April 15th, 2022, SIM registration was to be completed. But to give network operators and customers more time to prepare, the deadline was pushed forward by six months.

"Safaricom PLC had declared 67% compliance, Airtel Kenya reported 55% compliance, and Telkom Kenya reported 33% compliance."

"The Authority had resolved to prolong the SIM card registration validation time for an additional six (6) months to guarantee that operators fulfil their commitment," CA Director General Ezra Chiloba said in April.

The CA boss said that the new deadline for changing subscriber registration data would be October 15, 2022.

Kenyans with SIM cards that haven't been registered yet have less than 24 hours to give their main personal information, such as an original ID card for Kenyans or an authentic, valid passport for foreigners.

Since all service providers will have a copy of each subscriber's identity papers on file, CA says that the procedure's main goal is to safeguard telecommunications service users.

Based on a new analysis by the Authority, from April through June of this year, mobile providers deleted around 287,214 unregistered SIM cards.
