As Taylor Swift's new album surpassed the Spotify milestone for most albums played in a single day, she praised her followers for "doing something mind-boggling."

Midnights, the pop megastar's most recent album, was dropped on Friday.

Less than 24 hours later, the largest streaming music provider said online that the album had received the highest number of streams in one day in the history of the service.

"And on October 22nd, Taylor Swift surpassed the previous record for the most albums listened to in a single day on Spotify before the clock could even strike midnight. Congratulations, Taylor Swift 13! " tweeted the platform's main account.

Swift expressed her reaction to the news in the following words: "How did I get this fortunate, having you guys out here doing something so amazing? Like, what the heck just occurred?

Fans were shocked when Swift announced her new album at the end of the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards in New Jersey in August.

All her life, she has had "13 restless nights interspersed across her record," which she has referred to as "a trip between terrors and lovely dreams."

Folklore and Evermore, her two most recent albums, ditch her personal indie lyrics in favour of electronica, synth-pop, and sometimes even hip-hop-influenced rhythms.

Swift and Jack Antonoff, the main vocalist of the rock band Bleachers, once again collaborated on the bulk of the album's songs.

She posted an Instagram selfie of herself with her bandmates to celebrate the release of the album. In the caption, she called Antonoff her "co-pilot."

"We've been doing music together for over a decade, but this is our first album with just the two of us as key contributors," she added. " He's my buddy for life." 

"Midnights really truly solidified and poured out of us when our partners (both actors) performed a film together in Panama. We'd been dabbling with concepts and had written a few things we enjoyed.

" Jack and I found ourselves back in New York, by ourselves, recording each night, staying up late, and discovering forgotten midnights."

"Midnights is a mosaic of intensity, highs and lows, and ebbs and flows," she concluded.
