The National Police Service (NPS) released a statement after Pakistani journalist Arshad Mohammed Shariff was killed. His death has caused a stir in his own country.

NPS says that local police in Magadi shot Arshad Mohammed Shariff because they thought he was driving a stolen car. They got this information from the Pangani Police Station, which told them that a stolen car was coming to the area.

"NPS regrets to report an incident that happened yesterday night in Magadi, Kajiado, near the Kwenia Farm/Kamukuru Marram Road, when a police officer fatally shot 50-year-old Pakistani citizen Arshad Mohammed Shariff as he was a passenger in a car KDG 200M. The deceased was there at the time of the occurrence with his brother, Khurram Ahmed, " In a statement, NPS said.

"The incident happened after Pangani Police circulated information about a stolen car. The police in Magadi was informed by the cops who were following the car, and they set up a road blockade, "the police reported.

NPS says that when a Pakistani journalist was being driven in a car past a police roadblock, the police opened fire.
