Christian Church for All Nations pastor named Jean Omari arrived in the eastern city of Goma court over abduction

Following reports of two dozen children going missing, a pastor from the Democratic Republic of the Congo suspected of kidnapping children made an appearance in court on Wednesday.

A Christian Church for All Nations pastor named Jean Omari arrived in the eastern city of Goma on suspicion of being responsible for the abduction of several kids.

The 45-year-old has been in jail since the beginning of the month. His lawyers want him freed.

No other information was provided, but twelve missing children's names were read out in the quiet courtroom before the case was postponed until October 19.

As emotions rose in the disorganized court, Omari was locked back to his cell.

Outside, the pastor's believers assembled, some sobbing while others sang affirmations of the clergyman's righteousness. His church has around 4,000 members.

Some of the missing children's parents came to the meeting to urge that the pastor be held accountable.

Following the hearing, security personnel removed the protesters.

Outside the courthouse, parent Jean Bosco Bonane told AFP that a total of 24 children are missing, some of whom have been gone for more than a year.

He told AFP, "We expect the pastor to give our kids back to us."
