Raila Odinga at Bunge la Mwananchi Jevanjee

Fuel prices will once again reach a new peak this week, according to Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

On Tuesday, while on a date with Bunge la Mwananchi and attending a discussion at Jevanjee Gardens, Raila criticized the current administration of President William Ruto for eliminating subsidies.

Raila backed the former president, Uhuru Kenyatta. He also said that Ruto is yet to do something to protect Kenyans during his short time in power.

"Uhuru was always being blamed, but he was only following other heads of state across the globe. Kenyans were shielded by Uhuru from the consequences of the conflicts in Russia and Ukraine. But now that they've declared it's not realistic, gasoline prices will increase once again this week, " explained Raila.

President William Ruto said that he would lower fuel prices, but Raila says that the prices have gone up.

This is due to Ruto's removal of the fuel subsidy in September, which caused a litre of gasoline to rise in price by 12 percent to Sh179 from Sh159.

Ruto says that in the past year, the government spent Sh144 billion on fuel subsidies, and that Sh75 billion is still owed to oil marketers.

He said that Kenya would soon experience acute fuel shortages if the incentive hadn't been eliminated.
