Five more police officers from the now-defunct Special Service Unit (SSU) are being held at the police station in the industrial area.
Stephen Matunda, David Kipsoi, Paul Njogu, Simon Gikonyo, and Joseph Mwenda Mbaya, all police constables, and Joseph Mwenda Mbaya, a corporal, were held on Wednesday at the Internal Affairs Unit's headquarters on Upper Hill.
A statement says that the five will be brought before a judge on Thursday for conspiring to commit a crime and kidnapping.
The day before, the Kahawa Law Courts gave the prosecution permission to hold four more police officers from the disbanded Special Service Unit for 30 days at the Capitol Hill Police Station while investigations are going on into the disappearance of two foreigners and their taxi driver.
Magistrate Diana Mochache also said that DNA samples should be taken to use in profiling and to compare with the things that were taken, and she gave permission for a forensic analysis of the computers used by the police officers.
The National Police Service Act of 2011's section 87 limits the Internal Affairs Unit's authority to investigate complaints brought against National Police Service members for criminal offences, but the four police officers, Peter Gachiku, Francis Ndonye, John Kamau, and Joseph Mbugua, failed in their attempt to stop the Internal Affairs Unit from prosecuting them.
They contended that the unit was violating the Independent Policing and Oversight Authority's authority by prosecuting them.
