In the penultimate match of Group D at the Qatar World Cup, France and Tunisia face off in a pool that still has Australia, Denmark, and Tunisia in it, but the world champions are already out.

Even though France will advance, the top berth is still up for grabs. Australia can still finish ahead of France after defeating Tunisia 1-0 with an early goal.

Due to the Socceroos' loss to France in Group D's opening match, they will need to reverse a spectacular goal difference of over six goals.

This means that a France loss and a goal difference reverse are both required to knock the defending champions off the top.

Kylian Mbappe top form

Given France's recent performance and the superstar Kylian Mbappe, this seems exceedingly implausible.

After falling short of winning the award during France's victory four years ago, the Paris Saint-Germain star is now keeping an eye on the Golden Boot.

With his three goals in his first two games and the fact that other players like Harry Kane have yet to score for their countries, Mbappe has emerged as the obvious favourite to win the trophy.

Mbappe scored twice against Denmark to help his team defeat them 2-1; the first goal was a beautiful finish, and the second came after a dashing run into the box.

However, he and his French teammates are up against a Tunisia team that currently has the best defensive record in the group.

After playing Denmark to a scoreless tie and then losing 1-0 to Australia, Tunisia still hasn't scored their own goal.

However, given the performances of Australia and Denmark, Tunisia can still advance if they defeat France with ease and then hope that Australia and Denmark draw.

This might be more possible, but in reality, there is no evidence to suggest that Tunisia will be able to defeat a France team that, thus far, appears to be every bit as strong as they were when they won the 2018 World Cup.

Olivier Giroud one goal to break France record

Olivier Giroud will also draw considerable interest in this game because he is only one goal away from breaking Thierry Henry's record for most goals scored by a French player ever.

This may be his best opportunity to do so because Tunisia is a weak team and the Les Blues have little to play for.
