Dr. Resila Atieno Onyango new NPS spokesperson

Bruno Shioso has been replaced as the official spokesman by Dr. Resila Atieno Onyango, the first female police officer in the history of the National Police Service (NPS) to earn a doctoral degree (PhD).


As the commander of the National Police Training Campus in Kiganjo, Mr. Shioso will step down to make way for Japhet Koome, who will succeed him as Police Inspector General.


Oxbridge degree Dr. Resila is a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). He used to be the Deputy Director of Planning in the Office of the Inspector General of Police.


2013 saw her graduate with a PhD and a Master of Philosophy in Criminal Justice from The City University of New York's (CUNY) Graduate Center and John Jay College of Criminal Justice.


She worked as a consultant criminal intelligence officer for the International Criminal Police Organization until August 2021. (INTERPOL).


She has lectured on criminal justice regionally at USIU-Africa and internationally at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in the United States. She is also often asked to speak at Drexel University in the United States in her role as a Criminal Justice Expert.


Before she became a police officer in 2003, Dr. Resila got her first degree in education from Moi University.


Dr. Resila is a specialist in police, peace, conflict, and security. She has also completed training as a military observer at the International Center of the Finnish Defense Forces in Finland and as a major crimes investigator at the International Law Enforcement Academy in Botswana.


Manaseh Musyoka, the Central Regional Police Commander, has been given the responsibility of overseeing the Nairobi area, among other changes that were announced on Tuesday. James Mugera will hand it over to him after retiring.


Musyoka will be replaced as the police chief of the Central area by Lydia Ligami.


The Western Region Commander, Peris Muthoni, who has also resigned, will be replaced by Paul Lagat, while Catherine Mugwe has been designated the Staff Officer at the NPS's headquarters.
