A 38-year-old teacher from Kapiri Mposhi alleged to have committed suicide because of a Sh 373,658 debt.

Margaret Choongo, a female teacher at Lukanda Secondary School, Zambia,  has recently been confirmed as the deceased in the Lukanda Plot area.

This happened on November 4, 2022, between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m.

According to Police Kapiri Mposhi Officer Commanding Mwenda Kabamba, who confirmed the incident to SPICE FM news, Ms. Choongo purportedly consumed an unidentified poison in her bedroom before taking her own life. Her husband was the one to find her when he returned home to find out why she hadn't shown up for work.

When Justine Kashunga's husband went into the bedroom, he discovered his wife dead on the floor with a note to him explaining why she had killed herself and listing the several debts she owed.
When police arrived on the scene, a suicide incident was identified.

The body has been placed in the mortuary of the Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital in anticipation of the autopsy and burial.

While this was going on, some friends of the now-deceased counselled those in similar circumstances to seek psycho-social counselling, particularly about financial concerns, rather than considering suicide.
