Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza photo as court blocks impeachment

An impeachment motion against Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been put on hold by the Meru High Court.

On Wednesday, November 30, Justice Wamae Cherere said that the Meru County Assembly did not start the petition in the right way.

Mwangaza asked the court last Monday to stop the County Assembly from talking about her impeachment action. She did this by filing a legal petition.

The governor claimed, through her lawyer, Elias Mutuma, that a member of the assembly acting as the clerk called and signed the publishing of the impeachment motion.

She also said in court that the fact that 68 out of 69 MCAs supported the motion for impeachment demonstrated that the assembly had a fixed viewpoint on the matter.

The impeachment motion was put forward by Abogeta West MCA Dennis Kiogora, who is also the Minority Chief Whip. This was on November 21.
