Felix Odhiambo Okech, a 12-year-old boy, hanged himself on a branch of a tree

Investigations have been started by the police in Rachuonyo North East Sub County, Homa Bay County, into the death of a seventh-grade student who is thought to have committed suicide.

According to reports, Felix Odhiambo Okech, a 12-year-old boy, hanged himself on a branch of a tree in a thicket close to their home on Saturday night.

The student from Dudi Primary School is said to have gone missing before his dead body was found hanging from the top of a tree late at night by a family member who had left home to let their goats out to graze.

Michael Okech, the boy's father, says that Felix may have killed himself by hanging himself after he saw a dead goat in the grazing pasture.

It is not clear how the goat died.

He said that the youngster cut a rope from the dead goat and used it to hang himself out of terror.

Justus Kucha, the commander of the Rachuonyo East Sub-County Police, who verified the occurrence, said that the police have not determined the reason why the kid chose to end his life.

The boy's corpse was taken to the Rachuonyo South Sub County Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination after police commenced their inquiry into the incident.
