According to an announcement made by the Ministry of Education on Wednesday, a total of 252 KCPE candidates in nine exam areas were given zero points for indulging in exam cheating and will be allowed to go on to secondary schools.
During the announcement of the results of the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu said that the candidates who engaged in the malpractices would still be allowed to go on to secondary schools.
Machogu claimed that the mark assigned to the affected applicants in the concerned subjects will be deducted from their aggregate score before the score is calculated.
"The applicant will be informed of the results of their examinations and will continue their education in secondary school."
He added that what we are doing is consistent with the spirit of the 100% transition policy.
Machogu stated that the collaborative power of the Multi-Agency Examinations Team of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and Digital Economy, and the Teachers Service Commission played a vital role in making sure that the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education was free of malpractices.
According to the Cabinet Secretary for Education, a total of 1,233,852 candidates registered for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) 2022 examination, which took place in 28,408 centers across the country.
This number represents an increase from the 1,214,031 candidates who registered for the exam in 2021.
He mentioned that 620,965 (50.32%) of these candidates were boys, while 612,887 (49.67%) were girls, mentioning that the figures are a strong demonstration that the country has accomplished gender parity at the primary school level.

The counties of Turkana, Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera each had a considerable increase in the number of male applicants who submitted applications.
On the other side, Marsabit, Isiolo, and Meru received appreciably more applicants from female candidates than they did from male ones.
