Former Tourism CS Najib Balala photo

Najib Balala, a former cabinet secretary for tourism who is now vice president of the international animal conservation organisation Fauna and Flora International (FFI), has returned to Yemen, where he was born, after a 17-year absence.

On Sunday, the FFI Vice President posted on social media that he had visited his friends and relatives in Seiyun and had been welcomed by officials.

He tweeted, "Received by Eng. Hisham Al Saeedi, Under Secretary of the Governorate of Hadhramouth."

"D.G. of Security Brig. General Abdulla Salmeen Bin Habish, D.G. Ministry of Tourism Ali Muhammad Al Saggaf, Seiyun International Airport and Air Force staff led by Brig. General Sadiq Bakhit and Clan Chief Sheikh Saleh Mabkhout Balala, community leaders, friends, and family."

Balala was born in Mombasa in 1967, and he has lived there ever since. He started politics in 1998 at the age of 30 and served as the tourism secretary for the longest period of time on Kenyan soil.

He was succeeded by CS Peninah Malonza in 2022.

He was hired as an FFI a week after he left and will utilise this position to help the NGO with forthcoming initiatives both locally and internationally by using his wide expertise in animal conservation and tourism.
