December 6, 2022, is a Tuesday. After being found guilty of car theft, Kenyan socialite Sheila Wairimu, also known as Shay Diva Africa, was given a four-year jail term with the option of a Ksh200,000 fine.
The 30-year-old socialite was charged with using PJ Dodhia Kumar's TIMs/NTSA account to get access and giving herself possession of the car without completing the proper succession procedures.
Shay Diva logged into the deceased's TIMs account at 11:45 p.m. on April 26 and submitted an exchange of the log book, as per documentation at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
The transfer was approved at 2:00 PM the next day; however, the owner had not provided any supporting documentation.
When learning that Shay Diva had stolen the car, Kumar's family reported it to the police after he passed away in April 2021 at the age of 61.
The tycoon only gave the socialite the Landcruiser on a "use and return basis" since they were dating," the family said.
In her defense, the socialite told the court that the Landcruiser was given to her without her consent and that she discovered this when she logged onto her NTSA account.
Shay Diva was accused of blackmailing the late billionaire by one of the five individuals who confessed against her in court.
The witness, Chirag Bhatt, the manager of a hardware store managed by the deceased businessman, said that the socialite vowed to reveal their extramarital affair to his wife, who resides in the UK.
"Shay Diva stayed with the car till Kumar was killed by blackmail," he continued.
The Toyota Landcruiser was fraudulently transferred into Diva's hands; she was charged with three counts of interfering with family estate, forgery, and theft.
On November 30, 2022, a conviction was reached, and on December 5, 2022, she received her punishment.
On December 5, 2022, Kitale Chief Magistrate Julius N'garng'ar rendered a decision in the matter and ruled that the Toyota Landcruiser 200 series be returned to the family of the late Dodhia Kumar, the man she was dating.
Judge remarked; "I have taken into account the mitigating circumstances, and I'll consider the fact that the defendant is a first-time offender. Along with those factors, I also took into account the accused's defense counsel's plea of rehabilitation for the offense."
