The cabinet of President William Ruto has given its approval for Kenya to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The release said that "this is a step toward the goal of the Harambee Stars qualifying for the FIFA World Cup in 2030."

Together with partner nations of the East African Community, this will occur.

The collective proposal, according to Cabinet, would use sports' ability to stimulate regional unity.

As a result, Kenya may now submit a letter to the Confederation of African Football to request permission to host the AFCON in collaboration with the EAC region.

The nation will also need to make preparations for infrastructure and stadium construction.

Kenya was not qualified to host the African Nations Championship, according to a 2017 CAF announcement.

The competition was scheduled to happen in January 2018.
