President William Ruto said on Monday that no Kenyan would be exempt from paying their fair share of taxes, even though he was in a standoff with the opposition.

The Head of State made this statement while he was in Mombasa, where he was presiding over the National Assembly's Post-Election Seminar 2023, which was held in collaboration with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).

The President added that Kenya is not an animal farm in which some animals have more rights than others.

"The current rallies, where most people are protesting the rising cost of living and higher taxes, have been called the work of tax cheats," said President Ruto, who did not name any specific people.

President Ruto said, "Even if they support protests so they don't have to pay taxes, they will have to do so in the future because there are no more loopholes."

"This nation is not an animal farm where some animals are more equal than others; we are going to create a society where every person takes their fair share of the cost to increase our taxes," President Ruto said in a recent speech.

During the same speech, Ruto made it clear that no one would have to pay more taxes or be charged more than what the law requires.

"I'm not talking about new taxes; I'm talking about taxes that have been agreed upon by parliament and signed into law," he continued.

The most recent development took place in the midst of the demonstrations that were organized by Raila Odinga in Nairobi. During the rallies, the former presidential candidate accused the UDA-led government of rigging the elections for 2022.

Azimio demonstrations will begin in Machakos, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kisii, Kisumu, and Mombasa before continuing to Kiambu, Garissa, Isiolo, Turkana, and concluding in Nairobi.

However, Kenyans could not settle on that speech after claiming that the most tax evaders are in UDA. Humphrey Kariuki, Tabitha Karanja, Mary Wambui among others were mentioned by netizens.
