Nick Salat dumps KANU for UDA and reveals Moi's reasons for firing him

 

Nick Salat, the under-fire secretary general of the Kenya African National Union (KANU) Party, is said to have told people about disagreements he had with party chairman Gideon Moi that led to his being kicked out of the group.
 

This happened when Moi sent a letter on December 15, 2022, announcing that Salat had been fired for alleged wrongdoing and violating the party constitution.
 

Now, Mr. Salat has hinted that the dismissal happened because of a KANU meeting in Nakuru, where he is said to have asked the leadership to step down after a bad showing in the August 2022 elections.
 

"We evaluated how we did in the elections, and I was asked what was going on given our trend has been downward since 2013.

 

" Salat told the Sunday Nation that the number of elected representatives a party has is a good indicator of its power.
 

"I said that people in leadership, including the chairman and myself, should not hold the same post in any democracy that is operating. We need to step down and let others take charge of the party."
 

Salat's comments made some party members feel uncomfortable, but he insisted that the party's most important problems had to be fixed.
 

"Because such questions had never been posed before, many were astonished. We just finished congratulating the leadership as we sat down. You can't have a big name and no accomplishments to back it up. I asserted. I questioned the chairman about his efforts to make the party successful."
 

Salat hasn't been able to do his job as KANU Secretary General since he was kicked out, and a disciplinary committee has already been set up to look into his case and make a decision after one month.
 

Salat reaffirmed that he would not refuse the summons, stressing how important it was for him to cleanse his reputation.
 

The blunt politician says, "Even if I have nothing to do with KANU, I'm ready for the investigation."
 

"I will indeed show up to clear my name. If I don't, it will seem like I'm avoiding responsibility. "I'll stand in front of them and speak the truth," he observed.
 

Salat said that the party was governed like a one-man show and that he was seldom given a place at the negotiation table, which was the cause of KANU's poor showing in the elections.
 

Salat announced his final move to UDA yesterday after being welcomed by President William Ruto in Bomet.
