President Ruto at father Henry Juma Odonya ordination

As part of his two-day visit to the area, President William Ruto is now at Kitale, which is the main center in Trans Nzoia County.

The Governor of Trans Nzoia, George Natembeya, greeted and welcomed the President when he arrived.

He is currently present at the consecration of Reverend Father Henry Juma Odonya, who Pope Francis chose to be the next bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitale in November 2022.

Musalia Mudavadi, the Prime Cabinet Secretary, and Moses Wetangula, Speaker of the National Assembly, are also there, in addition to a large number of other prominent politicians.

Odonya takes the place of Bishop Maurice Anthony Crowley, who has reached the mandatory retirement age for clerical positions and is thus stepping down. Since 1998, Crowley has been the incumbent.

Odonya's elevation to the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) was announced by Archbishop Bert Van Megen, who served as the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya. Pope Francis' envoy in Kenya was Archbishop Van Megen.
