In response to the Supreme Court's decision, the Christ Is The Answer Ministries (CITAM) church said that the High Court and the Court of Appeal were right to find that the NGO Coordination Board broke the right to freedom of association by not letting in an NGO that fought for the rights of the LGBTQ community. The High Court and the Court of Appeals both reached the same conclusion.
On February 24, the Supreme Court of Kenya ruled in favour of the LGBT movement's right to gather together. They argued that although transgenderism is a crime in Kenya, they still have the freedom to associate with others.
Because this is such a strange conclusion, many people are left wondering if other criminals, like paedophiles and people who engage in incest, also have the right to gather, and if they don't, how they are different from homosexuals. And maybe even organizations involved in criminal activity; "a portion of the letter sent by CITAM was read."
Interestingly, the highest court ruled at the same time that the Church in the West finally approved of gay marriages, according to a letter from Calisto Odede, the highest bishop in CITAM.
CITAM praised the minority of Supreme Court justices who disagreed with the majority's decision to let gay people form groups.
"We are aware that this information has come to us not long after some branches of the Church in the West decided to bless hom0s£xual marriage. The judges who decided in favour of God's creative order and the preservation of cultural traditions notwithstanding their disagreement with the verdict of the majority are deserving of our highest praise. In the same vein, we value and support those segments of the Christian faith communities that have maintained their stance on biblical issues despite the rift that has developed between them and the organisations that serve as their umbrellas."
The bishop went on to talk about many Bible passages that he thinks support CITAM's view on hom0s£xuality.
"The Bible calls evil both immoral thoughts and actions, like being gay. Seven different passages in the Bible talk clearly about this kind of relationship: Genesis 19:1–11; Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Judges 19:22–25; Romans 1:25-26; 1 Corinthians 6:9; and 1 Timothy 1:9–10. In each of these verses, h0mos£xuality is condemned as a wrong, unnatural, and twisted way to live, not praised. According to the verse in Leviticus, the penalty for doing so is the death penalty. "The new life that Christians are called to live in Christ is incompatible with the kind of lifestyle that people like you and me choose to live," he said.
He said that the Bible says that those acts are sinful because they go against what the Bible says and go against how God planned for families and relationships between people to work. If everyone engaged in it, human existence as we know it would come to an end. While it is against God's will and constitutes sin, making amends with him and regaining his favour is still possible.
