Mike Sonko Salama beach resort resort

Mike Sonko, a former governor of Nairobi, has added the Kilifi Maridadi Beach Resort to his portfolio of businesses for KSh 217 million.

The flashy politician who isn't afraid to show off his wealth gave the building its name, Salama Bling Beach Resort.

Sonko said that starting a business in the hotel sector was his boyhood ambition.

"Ever since I was in elementary and high school, I have liked and respected nightclubs and discos as a way to meet new people."

"My love of real estate and possession of assets brought me into contact with the hotel sector, either professionally or as an entrepreneur," said Sonko.

The legislator said that Salama Bling Beach Resort, which costs between KSh 28,000 and 35,000 per person (foreign visitors) per night, employs more than 80 Kenyan employees.

The cost for domestic visitors, however, ranges from KSh 12,000 to KSh 15,000 per person each night. The hotel has meeting rooms, baths, and golden beds.

This year, Sonko intends to host more high-end business events and gatherings, as well as top performers and celebrities for ceremonies like weddings.

Sonko's wealth

In May 2019, Mike Sonko, who used to be the governor of Nairobi, said that his personal wealth was more than the city's annual budget with his net worth at KSh 32 billion.

The colorful politician said that he had made his money long before he was chosen to represent Makadara in parliament in 2010.

The 47-year-old operated his transport company with his wife, Primrose Mbuvi, before getting elected.
