Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu

In violation of legislative protocol, newly-nominated Senator Karen Nyamu was expelled from the Senate on Tuesday in the late afternoon.

This was accompanied by a contentious discussion after a petition by Migori Senator Eddy Oketch to Speaker Amason Kingi over his mate's attire, which he said had dragged the House into shame.

"I am becoming more worried about the level of leadership that the majority party is displaying in this House. We are diluting the purpose of Parliament," he said.

After making a decision on her attire, Speaker Kingi expelled her from the Senate.

"Senators are required not to enter the chamber lounge or dining room without being properly dressed; male MPs must wear collared long-sleeve shirts, ties, a pair of socks, and shoes.

"Women, on the other hand, should wear clothes that are decent, formal, and of a business-wear nature." "Senator Nyamu, I’m afraid you do not fit the bill, and I am going to ask you to leave the chambers, dress properly, and come back to the chambers," he said.
