The Kenya Kwanza government, according to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, would not tolerate anybody who didn't pay their taxes.

At a retreat for senators on Thursday, February 2, Gachagua talked back to former President Uhuru Kenyatta about the ongoing talk about unpaid taxes.

Gachagua agreed with what President William Ruto said, which was that everyone should pay their taxes.

The deputy president told people with big tax debts to talk to the Kenya Revenue Authority about a payment plan. This was a clear reference to Uhuru.

"Those who haven't been paying taxes shouldn't worry."

"Any suggestions about how you could pay in installments are welcome."

"You may make monthly payments of Ksh 1 billion until the debt is paid in full."

"It's really straightforward; everyone must pay taxes," explained Gachagua.

Gachagua continued by saying that it was a mistake to exclude leaders from paying taxes and that anybody who wants to be exempt should think about applying to the Kenyan people.

"In our nation, no one will be free from paying taxes. You can advertise to the Kenyan people that they can avoid paying taxes by purchasing a newspaper advertisement. Ya Mungu ni ya Mungu, Ya Kaisari ni ya Kaisari. We are following the Bible and the Constitution in what we are doing," he said.
