Fred Matiang'i, who was formerly the Interior Cabinet Secretary and is now embroiled in controversy, has returned to Kenya after spending two weeks in the United Kingdom.
It is stated that Matiang'i travelled to the country in Europe in her private capacity in order to deal with an important, strictly private family situation that required her immediate attention.
The former chief security officer arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on KLM Flight 0566 at around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday evening, according to the sources.
According to sources, Matiang'i is scheduled to show himself at the headquarters of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at 11:00 a.m.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has been conducting an investigation into Matiang'i and has questioned him on the purported series of raids at his residence in February.
Previously, Senior Superintendent of Police Michael Sang gave an order ordering Matiang'i to present himself at the DCI headquarters on the allegations that he might have disseminated misleading information about the supposed police crackdown that occurred two weeks ago.
The directive was made because Sang believes that Matiang'i may have been responsible for publishing the fake news.
Afterwards, his attorney, Danstan Omari, protected him by claiming that the DCI failed to comply with the processes on how a summons was supposed to be issued, pointing out that neither the former CS nor his legal representation had obtained such an instruction.
Danstan Omari said that the DCI had not followed the protocols on how a summoning was supposed to be delivered.
Matiang'i would readily show himself for interrogation, and then the DCI would respect the established procedures on the notice to appear, according to Omari, who added that statement.
