Gloria Becky Atim, who worked as an office assistant at Lii sub-county, Francis Okello, who rode a boda boda, and another guy, who has only been known as Tabu arrested for burning government offices searching for honey

Three suspects have been taken into custody by the police in the Nwoya district after they were suspected of setting fire to the recently constructed head office of the Lii sub-county while also attempting to steal honey from the ceiling.

Gloria Becky Atim, who worked as an office assistant at Lii sub-county, Francis Okello, who rode a boda boda, and another guy, who has only been known as Tabu, are all believed to be involved.

The three individuals were found on Saturday, only a few hours after they had taken refuge after the fire that broke out on Friday night and destroyed the multi-million dollar structure.

The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), which developed the buildings using the revenue-sharing cash from Murchison Falls national park, had just recently turned over the offices; thus, they had only been in existence for a month before they were made available to the public.

According to the investigation conducted by the police, Atim, who works as an office assistant at the sub-county office, enlisted the assistance of two other individuals at around 10 o'clock on Thursday evening in order to collect honey from one of the ceilings of the office.

It is said that in the procedure of using fire to smoke out the bees, the fire caught the wood roof trusses and then progressed to burn down the whole office complex. This was alleged to have happened.

The accused will be prosecuted for arson, according to the head of the police force in the Aswa River Area, Damalie Nachuha. She claims that the individuals under suspicion are being held in the Lii police station pending the outcome of additional probes.

The resident district commissioner for Nwoya, Christopher Omara, expressed his sadness at the event and accused the relevant authorities of being negligent.

He believes that the occurrence is cause for concern and has asked for a comprehensive inquiry to determine whether or not it was the result of an accident or an attempted sabotage.

Omara was also perplexed as to how the authorities of the sub-county could possibly carry out their jobs in an office that was overrun with bees whose honey was already ready to be harvested.
