Najma Ismail announced that she will be leaving her position at KTN News and Standard

On Thursday, February 8, Najma Ismail announced that she will be leaving her position at KTN News and Standard after nine years of service.

Najma has revealed that she is leaving the media station that is owned by Standard Media so that she can pursue other activities.

She did not, however, provide any information on her subsequent task.

She made the following statement: "When the time comes, I will notify the viewers as well as my followers of my future task."

Najma said in a brief report that the station had served as a mentor to her and assisted in the development of her professional career in the media sector.

At the station, Najma said that she had achieved the distinction of being Kenya's first English-language news anchor who wore a hijab.

She also recounted being elevated to lead the Gender Desk at the broadcaster, where she was responsible for encouraging women and providing good coverage of women succeeding in a variety of fields.

Najma said on LinkedIn that working for Kenya's top multi-media company, Standard Group PLC, where she began her career as a reporter nine years ago and where she has since achieved multiple firsts, has been an enormous honour and a joy for her.

"I have come a very long way, and for that, I will be eternally thankful. Nevertheless, I must now depart, since my time here has come to an end," she went on to write more.

Najma began her career in radio at Iqra FM, where she had positions as both an anchor and a reporter. After some time, she became a member of the Sound Asia FM team.

Her big break came in 2006 when Radio Africa hired her to work as a news anchor and reporter for Classic 105 and Kiss 100.

This was the beginning of her meteoric rise in the media industry. Seven years later, she had another opportunity of a significant kind when she was employed by KTN to work as a news anchor and reporter.

Najma reportedly had some of her most memorable on-air experiences when she was performing features for the KTN Job Centre, as reported by KTN News.

After completing her primary education at Aga Khan High School, Najma continued her education at Gryphons College, where she majored in computer science.

She attended Kenya Methodist University (KEMU) in pursuit of a degree in journalism and completed her studies there in 2019.

Her tenure at the station, which lasted for nine years, garnered her several plaudits, besides a spot on the list of Kenya's Top 30 Muslim Achievers.
