Eric Omondi in at industrial area police station

Eric Omondi, a popular comedian, was taken into custody for the second time in less than a month when he attempted to hand out flour to members of his audience at City Stadium.

Omondi, who is currently being held at the Industrial Area Police Station, had asked Kenyans to join the food aid activity.

The comedian has said in the past that he would be leading a demonstration against the increase in living expenses on Tuesday, March 7, beginning in Uhuru Park and on to the State House.

Omondi indicated that he was aiming to help Kenyans who couldn't purchase essentials such as wheat, sugar, and cooking oil.  He said that he was doing this to help the people of Kenya.

He said that he had paid for the delivery of the flour entirely with his own personal funds.

Before the police dragged Omondi away, he added, "Ni unga tu nilikuwa napeana."

In the past, Omondi was arrested for taking part in protests against the rising cost of living.

He was taken into custody on February 21 when he and a group of shirtless men blocked Parliament Road and demanded an appointment with Speaker Moses Wetang'ula. He was subsequently freed on bail after posting the required amount.

Omondi has also been in trouble with the authorities for a variety of other offenses.

In November 2021, he was taken into custody for assaulting Parliament buildings in an attempt to force media outlets to broadcast more locally produced material.

He said that imported music and cinema were stifling the growth of native talent by monopolizing the airwaves.
